I Rewatched the Scooby-Doo Animated Movies from 1979 to 2004 and Here Are My Thoughts. Part 2

Scooby Dooby Doo, Where Are Youuuuuu?

As you have may noticed by my last entry, I love Scooby Doo and I’m rewatching and reviewing every animated movie from 1979 to 2004. By reviewing I’m talking about If I like it or not, what do I like, have I seen it before and stuff like that, dont expect a full on critique of every movie, because probably on each review I will say Daphne is my icon and stuff like that. I have to give a disclaimer (at least I think I need to) I will be giving spoilers but we are talking about Scooby Doo movies so i dont think it is a big deal, but just giving you a heads up.

On this, the second part of the series of entries, I will be talking about the second group of three movies and a short film of Scooby Doo, sooo, lets get started.

5.Scooby-Doo! in Arabian Nights (1994)

This movie opens with Scooby and Shaggy in Arabia, they are looking to become the Royal Food Tasters, when they get the job they eat all the food and have to escape; to hide Shaggy dresses up as a woman while there is a competition to be the wife of the king, Shaggy wins and to escape again, he tells the king a story to fall sleep, the story is Aladdin but with the roles reversed.

In my humble opinion, this is the worst movie of the entire list, they literally tell us Aladdin again but change the roles and names, but its the same story; for some reason the Yogi Bear is the genius. Half of the movie is Aladdin and then there is a story of a pirate, its really bizarre. I didnt like it at all.

This movie, its not a bad thing but something that is notable, has a very different style of animation than the others, its simple and effective.

I dont have anything else to say because this movie is literally a bunch of nothing and just telling us Aladdin.

My grade to Scooby-Doo! in Arabian Nights is a 1/10

6.Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998)

This is the first time we see the gang all together. The movie stars with every member of the gang doing their own thing on their daily jobs, Shaggy and Scooby work at an airport, Daphne has a tv show and Fred helps her with it. Daphne wants more than the mysteries she has on the show, she wants something more exciting, Fred gets the group all together and they head on to Moonscar Island, where Daphne gets the mystery she wanted with zombies and monsters that are actually real and not humans playing dress up.

This movie aged beautifully, I remember watching it when I was little and having the DVD, at the time I didnt like it, but what would 5 year old me know at the time? This movie is so different from the others in so many ways, first of all they all have normal jobs, I did not expected that. Daphne is my fashion icon and her outfit on this movie does not dissapoint. I actually want to eat one of the peppers from the island omg.I love everything about this movie.

Let’s talk about the monsters/villains, I love the build up they made of the zombies and the story. The messages in the walls, the green fog and the look of the zombies were perfect to set up as if they were the villains, they were terrifying, I actually didnt remember the ending so I was pretty shock when I realized that the actual villains were furries. Yeah the villains were furries whose food were the youth of people so that they become inmortal.

This movie, so far, has the best villains, the best plot, the best plan and the best everything.

My grade to Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is a 10/10

7.Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost (1999)

Mystery In. solves a mystery of a museum, with the help of Ben Ravencroft, an author that is loved by Velma. He invites them to his hometown and they found it to be like a tourist attraction because the ghost of Sarah Ravencroft (an ancestor to Ben) is haunting the town in seek of revenge of the time that she was prosecuted and executed as a witch.

I watched this movie when I was little and I didnt remember anything except for the iconic Hex Girls. This movies is different from the others, I know I have said that about a lot of the previous movies, but in this case it is because, they havent talked about witches and Salem stuff until this movie, we also havent seen flashback of anything except for this movie.

This one is really slow at the beginning but the second half of the movie is faster and more entertaining. I really like this concept, first it is all a show but then there is an actual witch that is brought to life and they have to defeat her and the author. I think this movie is good, but not the best, just there in the middle, I feel like there is something missing from this movie.

In conclusion, I love the Hex Girls

My grade to Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost is a 6/10

.

8. The Scooby-Doo Project (1999)

This is a short film that parodies the Blair Witch Project with Scooby-Doo characters. We follow Mystery Inc. while they try to solve the mystery and ilm the Blair Witch.

I love the movie “The Blair Witch Project”, actually in second semester I made a whole essay about it omg, so I love this parody. The animators and everyone involved in the making of this were actually so committed to adapt the Scooby Doo characters to the narrative of the Blair Witch Project.

Everything in the short film made sense, the camera shots, which character did certain actions and it kind of made everything realistic in a way; for example, when the characters fights they sound like real people, not just characters, just like in the Blair Witch Project. One thing I specially love about this was how self aware the characters were and the things they say about their past episodes or movies like “We solve it around 30 minutes” “They only chase us when there is music”.

I really like this and I was shock when they mention in this movie that Shaggy’s name is Norville omg

My grade to The Scooby-Doo Project is a 8/10
